| Non-encapsulated foam flotation material that has broken away or has been discarded from boat docks is the largest source of man-made debris in Missouri’s Lake of the Ozarks. This material is not only an eyesore, but large chunks can also be a hazard to navigation AmerenUE banned any new installation of non-encapsulated foam in 1995. AmerenUE set a final deadline for replacement of all non-encapsulated foam to be completed by 2008. Because of the requirements of replacing the non-encapsulated foam with encapsulated foam, AmerenUE requires all manufactures of encapsulated foam floats to pass specifications for boat docks and flotation devices for use on Lake of the Ozarks. The Standards used are "The Seven Day Hunt Absorption Test" as developed by Fred Hunt. Testing of a encapsulated float encompasses the following: 1. The index puncture resistance of geotextile geomembranes, and related products, for punctures or fractures. 2. Thickness Measurement to ensure the encasement as a thickness of not less than .125 inches. 3. Visual inspection of construction of the interior of the float and foam, looking as bead size and how well it is fused together. 4. Absorption Test performed to provide early indication of the relative absorbency of the foam Some of the Manufactures that Lake Ozark Environmental performs testing for are: Permafloat Division of Cellofoam; Galva Foam / Shore Master; Formex ; InsulBead; Ace Roto-Mold ; Coon Manufacturing; Atlantic-Meeco If you would like your encapsulated foam float tested Contact Lake Ozark Environmental LLC 573-964-6956 or 573-216-8141 |
